EZGO RXV Controllers: Danaher vs Curtis vs ELiTE Eras

Every RXV looks like an RXV, but under the seat EZGO has built three different electrical carts since 2008 — and controller-era confusion is the single biggest source of wrong-part orders we see on this model. A controller, motor brake, or charger that fits a 2010 RXV may not fit a 2014, and neither fits an ELiTE. Here's the era map, how to identify yours, and what each era means when something fails.

The three eras

Identifying yours: the year from your manufacturer's code sorts most carts instantly; 2012–2013 units — the transition years — deserve a photo of the controller label, since either brand can appear. ELiTE carts announce themselves with the lithium badging and the absence of a flooded battery rack.

Failure behaviors by era, honestly

Danaher (2008–2011)

These carts are now 15+ years old, and the failure pattern is age-appropriate: controllers that fault intermittently when hot, connectors that have seen a decade and a half of moisture, and motor brakes on their second life. Before condemning a Danaher controller, work through the RXV won't-move diagnostic — the brake circuit and pack health produce controller-looking symptoms constantly. When a Danaher controller genuinely dies, the practical conversation is replacement and, on a cart also due for batteries, whether a lithium conversion plus modern components makes more sense than restoring 2008 electronics piecemeal.

Curtis (2012+)

The workhorse era with the best support. Same diagnostic discipline applies — pack voltage and brake circuit before controller — but when parts are needed, this era has them readily. The 2016+ refresh carts share the era's architecture with updated components; include the full year and serial with orders.

ELiTE (lithium)

A different service model: the Samsung-cell pack and its management system handle the battery side, so "battery problems" on an ELiTE are warranty-and-diagnostics territory rather than a parts swap. Chassis, brake, and accessory needs overlap with lead-acid RXVs; the electrical system does not. Serial number first, always.

Beeps, faults, and what they're worth

RXV controllers announce faults with beep patterns and diagnostic codes, and the honest guidance is this: the meaning of a given pattern differs by controller era, so a code table for the wrong era misleads more than it helps. What every owner can use regardless of era: a beeping RXV is telling you it detected a specific fault — most commonly brake-release, throttle, or pack-voltage related — and the won't-move guide's TOW test and brake-circuit inspection resolve the majority without decoding anything.
