EZGO RXV Lithium Conversion: More Than a Battery Swap

EZGO RXV Lithium Conversion: More Than a Battery Swap

Applies to 48V lead-acid EZGO RXV models, 2008–present. ELiTE owners: your cart is factory lithium — this page isn't for you. Era identification: RXV controller guide.

The RXV makes an unusually strong lithium case, and it's not just the usual weight-and-maintenance math: the RXV's AC drive, motor brake, and controller are all voltage-sensitive electronics, and a sagging lead-acid pack is behind a remarkable share of this cart's phantom faults — mystery beeps, brake-release complaints, controllers blamed for what the batteries did. A lithium pack's flat voltage curve doesn't just make the cart better; it makes it stop lying to you.

What the conversion involves

No onboard computer, no bypass — like the TXT, the RXV conversion is battery, hold-downs, and the kit's matched charger replacing the original single-point setup. The lead set (commonly four 12V batteries) comes out, the lithium battery goes in, connections are made, charger and state-of-charge gauge mounted. An afternoon with hand tools.

The one RXV-specific note: put the Tow/Maintenance switch in TOW before touching connections, and expect the cart to want a switch-and-key cycle after reconnection before it clears its startup checks and drives — that's the electronics rebooting, not a problem.

What changes on an RXV specifically

Lead-acid pack 48V lithium kit
Weight ~300 lbs (four 12V) 70–130 lbs
Voltage stability Sags under load and discharge — the RXV's electronics feel every volt Flat curve: fewer low-voltage faults, consistent brake release, full power all day
Maintenance Watering, cleaning None
Charging 8–10+ hours 3–5 hours, partial cycles fine
Lifespan 3–6 years 3,000–5,000 cycles

Long-run cost math: lithium vs. lead-acid breakdown. RXV-specific bonus line: every phantom fault you don't chase is an afternoon you get back.

Capacity

Usage Class Realistic range
Golf, neighborhood ~60Ah 20–30 miles
Daily driver, hills, rear seat ~105Ah 35–50 miles
Heavy daily use, lifted 150Ah+ 50+ miles

Why we lead with Bolt Energy kits: our house brand, 12-year warranty, matched charger and hardware included, and support from the people who sold it. RXV kits are confirmed against your serial — which on this cart also tells us your controller era, worth knowing before any electrical work.

Diagnosing a cranky RXV and weighing batteries at the same time? Run the won't-move checks first. If the pack tests weak, the conversion may resolve the electrical complaints and the battery problem in one job — it's the most common two-birds outcome we see on this model.
