EZGO Charger Not Charging? PowerWise Diagnostics Guide

EZGO charging has one great virtue over Club Car's: there's no onboard computer between the charger and the batteries. No relay authorization, no bypass procedures — when an EZGO won't charge, the fault lives in one of exactly four places: the wall, the plug path, the pack, or the charger itself. Here's the order that finds it fastest.
1. The wall
Lamp in the outlet; GFCI reset. Garage GFCIs trip constantly and account for a comic share of "dead charger" calls. If the charger has a cooling fan, note whether it spins when connected — signs of life narrow the search immediately.
2. The plug path — the EZGO-specific weak point
The D-shaped PowerWise plug and its cart-side receptacle carry decades of connect-disconnect cycles, and worn contacts here are the classic EZGO charging failure. Inspect both halves for melted plastic, loose pins, green corrosion, or a plug that wiggles in the receptacle. Arcing damages the pair together — a burned plug installed into a burned receptacle fails again in weeks, so they're replaced as a set. While you're there: the charger's fuse (in the DC cord or at the charger, per model) is a thirty-second check.
3. The pack — auto chargers need a pulse to find
PowerWise automatic chargers sense pack voltage before starting, and a deeply discharged pack — the cart that sat all winter — can fall below what the charger will recognize. The charger isn't broken; it can't find a battery it believes in.
- Rested pack: ~38V healthy on a 36V cart, ~50–51V on 48V.
- Each battery individually: one collapsed battery drags the pack under the sense threshold and stalls mid-charge besides.
- Too dead to sense: bring each battery up individually with a 6V/12V automotive charger (match the battery) until the pack total is recognizable, then let the PowerWise finish. A pack that ends up here more than once is announcing retirement.
4. The charger itself

The fork worth knowing about: if your batteries are also near end of life, the charger question and the battery question merge — a TXT lithium conversion includes a matched modern charger, retiring the PowerWise, the plug-path wear cycle, and the lead-acid rebuy in one decision. It's the most common way a charger complaint becomes a conversion order.
